Upcoming Release & More Updates

Here's a little mish-mash of updates, etc. Seems like between this month and last month, I've been doing more writing than posting, and that's always all right!

First, just a reminder that September 19 is right around the corner. Reserve your copy of ONCE UPON A PAINTED HORSE at 99 cents before the price goes up to $2.99!

Also, as you can tell by the work-in-progress bar on my blog's sidebar (to the right), GOODNIGHT MY LOVE is coming right along. I'm really looking forward to sharing the story-behind-the-story on that one, as well as revealing the cover for this upcoming book, which is looking at a tentative release date of sometime early November.

More coming, but I'm on my way in a few minutes to attend a MICHAEL W. SMITH concert tonight with my hubby! Check back this week for more posts/updates.

Happy Reading!

Why, hello there, Baby New Year! Welcome 2015

2015 is going to be an awesome year. Or maybe my friends on Facebook just had some amazing Happy New Year graphics to share? Ha!

It just seemed like people yesterday were looking forward to 2015 with enthusiasm and optimism. That's great to see. For me--actually, the whole Keenan family--we all seemed to have enjoyed the blessings of 2014, which was topped off by the announcement of our latest grandchild (this one to be born to Joey and Iris, their first) to be born in July of this year. Our younger son, Brandon, and his family went to Disneyworld, which both Aubrey and Matthew were old enough to really enjoy all that magic. We were all blessed by God's grace, presence, and especially His love, and I hope many others can say the same.

Writing-wise, it was also a great year. I'm really excited to be unveiling Consuelo Vazquez this year--actually, my new title under this pen name, a romantic novella, will be out later this month. The long overdue final title, Book 3 of THE JOYFUL NOISE SERIES, will be out within the next couple of months.

In fact, I was going to do this tomorrow, but here is the cover reveal for STEALING THUNDER!

And I close this post with a wish and a prayer that the New Year will bring for you and your loved ones happiness, joy, fun, good health, and a closer walk with the Lord!

Vintage (Earliest Works)

Recently, I was asked by a reader for a list of my books. Great idea, and I guess it's overdue! I'll add my more recent books to my next post, but here in chronological order (well, more or less) are my earlier works. Please note that the first two are geared toward a Young Adult audience, with the second one being a YA romantic comedy featuring some mischievous teenaged vampires. The books released by Kensington's Encanto line are all written under my pseudonym of Consuelo Vazquez and, just FYI, are more sensuous than most of my later works. Sea Siren was recently re-edited and re-released by me with its new cover, which you'll find below. Please note that the romances range in "heat" from sweet to sensuous, and unless they're listed out of print can be purchased through Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

One more note: There's also a paranormal novella, "The Prince of the Forest," which was published in Melange Books' Strange Desires, and an early romance novel, Baby, It's You, which has been out of print forever. Actually, to my knowledge, the book was contracted but never actually published and the publisher is no longer in business. Fascination is a sweet romance that can be purchased directly from Awe-Struck Publishing at this specific link.

More notes: And Then Came You was a nominee for the 1999 Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Awards...Salsa Kiss, one of the Encanto line's first titles, was chosen to be serialized on Univision.com...The Cop & the Mermaid is my longest novel, so if you want a big, fat, juicy read about a mermaid, pack it with your flip-flops and sunscreen and bring it along to the beach!

A Heartbeat Away

First, Happy St. Patrick's Day to everybody! Here in North Carolina, it's an absolutely stunning day, the picture of spring.

Secondly, I'm about a heartbeat away from finishing the first draft of CHAMPAGNE TASTE. Right now, the tentative date for my new book's release will be April 7. It will be available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Smashwords. CHAMPAGNE TASTE, which began its life as a chick lit, is more of a chick lit-slash-contemporary-romance fusion. Whatever that is. You'll have to wait till April 7 to find out. LOL!

In the meantime, enjoy this beautiful time when the earth becomes young again!

Next up at the Plate!

People in town always believed the place was haunted.

Goodson’s Furniture Store had been abandoned for years. It had stood there, dark and decaying, beside an old cemetery, for decades. The former owners left in a hurry, though no one’s ever been quite sure as to why. Callie Drennan, a local young woman, often went there to hide as a troubled young girl, to find solace from her painful life. One day, she follows her dog inside and makes an amazing, and yet terrifying, discovery: The freight elevator is a portal leading to another dimension. All it takes is one heart-pounding ride, and she’s instantly transported to a Galveston Beach in 1967. That’s where she meets rancher Dale Anderson, a man who makes her believe that love really does exist. But is she really ready for her life to change forever? And will it take all of her courage to travel back to that other dimension…or to sacrifice her own chance for happiness for the sake of the one she loves?

As you can probably tell from the description above, Dimension is a paranormal romance that is a lot different from my last two releases, Glimmers of Heaven and 'Twas the Spy Before Christmas.

Just as a little background, Dimension actually started out life as a Young Adult paranormal novel. As a matter of fact, it was written right after Suburban Vampires, but it was never completed. Written early in my career, it didn't make the rounds as much as some of my other work, and only found its way to about three editors' desks. It was rejected by all three, and after that I switched gears as well as genres. I began writing both short stories for women's magazines and romance novels. Dimension became one of those projects that a writer looks back wistfully on, always wondering if it would have found its way into the hands of readers.

My niece, Shannon, was a true advocate of this little story. Over the years she would always ask me, "Did you ever finish DIMENSION?" I'm grateful to her for keeping the memory of this little book alive. And now I can say that, yes, DIMENSION IS finished! However, I've completely rewritten it, and it's gone through a complete metamorphosis. The original heroine was a troubled 15-year-old with a learning disorder; the new heroine is a troubled 23-year-old young woman whose life, either as a child and as an adult, has not been easy. Interestingly, the finished product is about the length of a YA novel. Due to adult subject matters within the story, please note that DIMENSION is NOT a YA, but rather aimed at a mature audience.

I do want to add that the story doesn't follow the standard "rules" of romance. It is told in the first person from Callie's point of view, which also stayed true to the style of the original version.

So if you're in the mood for something a bit different, a suspenseful tale that is an excursion into speculative fiction and a love story to boot, then DIMENSION is coming your way this week!

Upcoming Release

Here's a preview, because I'm such a tease! Coming in January of 2012 is my upcoming release, DIMENSION, right now in the works. As you can probably guess from its cover, DIMENSION is a paranormal romance with a heroine who travels into another dimension. That's where she meets a strong, soft-spoken, hunky hero, who also happens to be a sexy rancher. More info to follow on this new book, which hopefully finds its way into many a reader's Kindle & heart!

Lunchtime Scribblin'

Whoever said that you couldn't work a full-time job and write obviously never sat in Wendy's, working on their WIP over a small chili and a medium unsweet tea.

In my travels, I've sat on a bench while working on Leading Lady, pausing to look out at the Hudson River and the New York skyline. Once or twice I toted my notebook and pen over to a small area near the East River while a chopper landed and took off several yards away from me at a heliport. (Yes, I'm putting good at tuning most noises out!) A favorite spot was in a church courtyard, where I sat listening to the sounds of the City while banging out stories on my AlphaSmart. There was also the Tea Spot, down near New York University in Greenwich Village, where I sipped on tea and wrote a good portion of The Cop and the Mermaid.

Now I'm working on The Bride With Wings, a paranormal novella, that is written in said Wendy's and in the car at the park, with my Neon in auxilary and playing relaxing spa music, perfect for composing.

A little bit every day, even if it's just 500 words, with just a little bit under an hour to work. That's how stories get done.

And that's one answer to that eternally annoying question, "How do you find time to write?"

Answer: You make the time. You carve it out. And you nibble on a Subway sandwich while you do it!
